CORSHAM were unable to throw a spanner in the works at Pounds Close as they were bested by league leaders Frocester last weekend.

Ashur Morrison’s visitors elected to bat first after winning the toss, with opener Dwain Fielding top-scoring with 46.

Michael Coles weighed in with 40, whilst Sam Collier and Nick Harrison were unbeaten on 39 and 30 respectively as they looked to add some late impetus to the Corsham innings, with the visitors posting 237-5.

Frocester’s first two wickets fell for just 54 but Tom Wand and Paul Muchall came to the fore, hitting 79 and 58 respectively to swing the pendulum the home team’s way.

Fielding helped himself to three wickets but it wasn’t enough to stem the tide as they reached 240-6 in the final over of their innings to condemn Corsham to a four-wicket defeat.

The result was Frocester’s 10th win in a row, which leaves them 35 points clear at the top of the Premier One table whilst Corsham remain fifth and thanks to five batting points and three bowling points, Morrison’s men have cut the gap on fourth-placed Bristol to four points.

Corsham could leapfrog Bristol after the two teams meet this weekend.
