MARLBOROUGH were knocked off the top of the Wiltshire Division as their three-match winning run was brought to a halt by Marshfield last weekend.

James Williams’ side claimed a 22-run victory over the league leaders at Broadleys on Saturday, paving the way for Trowbridge to steal into first-place in the table.

Hosts Marshfield elected to bat first after winning the toss and opener William Pascall set the tone with a knock of 44 before skipper Williams hit a hearty 75 from 53 deliveries.

Marlborough’s Bradley Frost piled on the pressure as he claimed 3-19 whilst Ben Head and Mike Bush were also amongst the wickets as they took a pair each but Marshfield’s Jeremy Bond also chipped in with 40 as the home side reached 246 before they were skittled in the penultimate over.

Opener George Penfold (40) and Peter Day (48) got the visitors off to a promising start but their middle order was eventually mopped up by Pascall, who ended the afternoon with figures of 5-40.

Captain Arran Dickinson (29), Frost (27) and Bush (23) all attempted to get off the ground but Marlborough eventually fell short as they were dismissed for 224 in 29 overs.

The villagers were leapfrogged by Trowbridge, who dispatched Malmesbury by eight wickets.

Former first-class player Andrea Agathangelou starred, taking 5-14 as Jack Ward’s men were skittled for 157 in the 46th over before the South African smacked 102 to drive Trowbridge to 159-2 in little more than 23 overs.

Devizes were thrashed by 147 runs at Westbury, with the hosts posting 216-6 before skittling Tom Grant’s men for a lowly 69, with Alex Senneck, Lydon Gibbons and Richard Oakley all claiming three wickets apiece.

Great Bedwyn captain John Palmer hit a century as his side saw off basement boys Calne.

Bedwyn were put in to bat first and Palmer immediately set the tone with a knock of 101, whilst Neil Maycock weighed in with a fine 68 as they posted a formidable 298-6, Calne’s Tom Crosby taking 3-43.

Jordan Butler spearheaded the visitors’ run-chase with a knock of 90, whilst Matthew Richards hit an unbeaten 46 but Calne fell short, reaching 272-8 by close of play.
