POTTERNE remain one point clear at the top of the table after they beat Lechlade by six wickets.

Bradley Dial hit 109 as Lechlade posted 234 all out, with Dylan Higgins (4-28) and Ed Young (3-43) the chief destroyers for Potterne.

Thomas Cullen (94*) and Sahan Wijerathne (90) then led the response as the target was reached in the 43rd over.

Elsewhere, Goatacre slipped into the relegation zone after they fell to a 57-run defeat on their trip to Weston-super-Mare.

The home side posted a chaseable 223-6 off their 50 overs but the Goats were skittled out for just 166 in the 39th over of their reply.

Ed Wilkins men are now second from bottom in the table, although they are level on 105 points with Chard directly above.

“It was a bit of a shame against Weston because we bowled and fielded quite well,” said Wilkins, whose side reached the National Village Cup quarter-finals the following day with a win over local rivals Marshfield.

“We thought that 223 would be gettable but we didn’t manage to get there. Matt House hit a great 55 at number 11 but that wasn’t enough.

“I think that at this stage of the season, a lot of people are beginning to concentrate more on the National Village Cup.

“But we need to forget about it for two weeks and concentrate on our league form.

“We’ve got three games coming up against Cheltenham, Lechlade and Shapwick (& Polden), who are all teams around us.

“If we were to get to Lord’s but finish in the bottom two and get relegated two levels because of the restructure, that would obviously take the icing off the cake.”
