DEVIZES Cricket Club fielded their first-ever ladies squad against local rivals Potterne Ladies.

Devizes won the toss and Potterne made 96 in their 20 overs, with Hannah Morgan unbeaten on 43 and Verity Bartlett taking two wickets.

Ellie Day and Zoe Back scored a 50-run partnership before retiring for Devizes, who chased down the runs for the loss of only two wickets.

Devizes captain Emma Banham said: “I am so proud of how both teams approached this game. Less than 12 months ago our team was still learning how to play, but we were disciplined with ball and bat and especially in our fielding.’’

IN THE Wiltshire Youth League, Chippenham claimed a two-wicket U13 Division One win over Purton, who reached 153-9 as Burraq Imran scored 55, Josh Barrow taking 3-41. Matt Billett hit 46 and Alex Christopher 45 as Chippenham reached 154-8.

Knocks of 49 not out from Nav Chahal and 30 from Prav Chahal helped Wootton Bassett to 154 against Corsham, who ended on 76-9 in Division Two North.

Goatacre had Harry Brooks (3-8) and Theo Malik (2-5) to thank for bowling Wootton Bassett out for 67 in U11 Division Two North. Thomas Andrews, with 24 not out and George Lewis (16 not out) helped Goatacre to 68-1.
