OPENER Ed Kilbee admitted there were a few nervous moments in the Wiltshire camp as they hung on for a draw in their latest Unicorns Championship clash away at Cornwall.

Set 352 to win on the final day, all three results were still possible late on Tuesday evening.

In the end some excellent rear-guard batting from Ed Young (105) and Ashur Morrison got Wiltshire to the brink of victory, although there was no complaints with the draw as the visitors finished on 338-9 by the close.

Kilbee, who scored 138 runs in the match, said: “It was a very tight game.

“We were in a tough position at the end of the second day so to get ourselves into a place where we could win it was a remarkable turnaround.

“With the wickets we had in hand we were always going to try to go for the win but in doing so that can leave you open to losing wickets.

“We like to be positive and push the game forward and get into the final session and see where we are.

“It is quite regular in a one-day game to hit 300 so that is how we approached it. It was certainly an exciting game.”

Wiltshire had the honours on day one after bowling the home side out for 246.

Cornwall won the toss and elected to bat at Grampound Road but had just 19 runs on the board when Tahir Afridi (3-67) claimed the first wicket.

Further wickets came at regular intervals, with Neil Curnow (59) the only Cornwall player to make a half-century, while Joe King led the Wiltshire attack with a haul of 4-78.

Openers Kilbee (62) and Uzi Qureshi (64) made serene progress in the reply on day two, sharing a fluent stand of 131 before Quereshi became the first man to fall to Brad Wadlan.

But from there things fell apart, with Wadlan (6-71) ripping through the visiting line-up as they crashed to 198 all out, a first-innings deficit of 48.

Cornwall were swiftly back on the front foot in their second innings, with a fabulous century from Matt Rowe (107) the backbone of their total of 303 all out. Jake Roberts claimed 5-85.

That left Wiltshire with a mountain to climb for victory and although Young and Morrison got them close, the visitors will be happy to have held on for the draw.
