CORSHAM were unable to make it three victories on the bounce as they went down by 96 runs on their trip to Downend.

The big problem for Ashur Morrison’s men was their consistent failure with the bat as five players were dismissed in single figures and they never looked like challenging the home side’s total.

Opener Patrick Grieshaber set the tone for Downend after they won the toss and his fluent knock of 80 was the backbone to a strong total of 245 all out.

Joseph King and Dwain Fielding impressed with the ball for Corsham, both returning identical figures of 3-30.

The Corsham reply got off to the worst possible start as openers Fielding and Tom Abbott were both dismissed for ducks.

That set the tone for the visitors as wickets fell at regular intervals.

Steve Bullen (36) and Sam Collier (26) tried in vain to make a game for it, while there were plenty of lusty blows from last man King (21), but in the end the reply limped to a disappointing conclusion after just 33.4 overs.

Matthew Jackson was the chief destroyer for Downend, returning superb figures of 3-6 from five overs.
