NATIONWIDE House ended Royal Wootton Bassett’s undefeated reign in the Wiltshire League.

House, relegated from the West of England Premier League last term, have endured a mixed bag of results this season, but on Saturday they sneaked a one-wicket success over the Division One table-toppers in a low-scoring match.

The Pipers Way side won the toss and asked Bassett to bat first but it took Nationwide until the 10th over to make the breakthrough with Shashank Kumar dismissing Jack Twine to leave Bassett 22-1.

That quickly became 23-2 when Russell Arkley (5-34) claimed the first of his victims as he removed Twine’s opening partner Sam Lawro.

Skipper Darren Beasant and Akash Sharma put on a 44-run stand for the third wicket before Arkley ripped out their middle order.

Bassett went from 67-2 to 87-7, but then Robert Pamphilion (37*) and Neilon Joseph (16) steadied the ship before the latter was bowled by Joe Perkins.

The House bowler then quickly mopped up the tail, taking three wickets in seven balls, as Bassett were dismissed for 129.

In reply, Nationwide lost opener Matthew Hyde in the sixth over before a 35-run stand between Mick Harris and Nick Clarke put the hosts in control.

However, Harris was the first of three run outs for Nationwide - Nick Clarke (42) and Mark Morris followed suit - as their chase stuttered.

Arkley struck the winning boundary in the 38th over.

Swindon Civil Service slumped to a seven-wicket loss at Lacock after being skittled out for 96, with the hosts’ Leigh Rodgers (5-20) and Sam Thomson (4-40) the chief destroyers.

Lacock required just 20 overs to reach their target and condemn their visitors to the bottom of the table.

Beanacre and Melksham leap-frogged Civil Service despite a 78-run loss to Box.

The hosts, who like Civil Service have 69 points, jumped one place by virtue of winning more matches.

The visitors were put into bat first and Andy Footner struck in the second over for Beanacre to remove Box’s Johnny Page for a duck.

However, Box skipper Richard Foley and Chris Bultitude then set about rebuilding the innings.

Beanacre dropped Foley on 20 before he and Bultitude (26) put on 50 for the second wicket before the latter was dismissed.

Gerald Hayward joined his captain and they put on another 50-run partnership.

The Box skipper had moved his side on to 102-2 before he was bowled by Nick Derbyshire for 71.

Hayward (80) and David Sanchez (17) added 51 for the fourth wicket as a flurry of late wickets left Box on 238-7.

The Beanacre innings started well, with captain Steve Rendell (38) punishing any loose bowling before Ed Skipping was removed for just three.

The home side were reduced to 61-3 and Chris Singh (65) was the only player to really trouble the scores as Beanacre were dismissed for 160.

Bradford on Avon claimed a 122-run home success over Beckington.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Bradford lost Ian Pinchen (five) early but a 104-run stand between Matthew Harrington (46) and Paul Vooght had the Culver Close men in the ascendancy.

Vooght powered his way to a maiden league century on his way to a 122-ball 160, which included 21 fours and five sixes, as Bradford closed on 275-5.

The Beckington reply got off to a bad start with skipper Mark Wilson dismissed for a duck off the bowling of Kit Chapman. David Carter took two wickets, but the prize wicket of Josh Dwight fell to Tony Laws as he trapped him leg before for 13.

The slow-left arm of Dean Bird ripped through Beckington as he claimed 6-32 from 7.2 overs as the visitors were dismissed for 152.

Division 2

SWINDON United Churches returned to the top of the table with a resounding 94-run victory over visitors Heytesbury & Sutton Veny at Sevenhampton.

Despite missing a trio of key players, opening batsman Jimmy Mann and skipper Richard Martin guided Churches home.

Heytesbury won the toss and asked the hosts to bat first and a solid first-wicket partnership between Mann (76) and Keith Coatsworth (20) set the platform for a large score.

Matt Runkel (52), in at number three, made his maiden half-century for the club, while Liam Brooks crashed an unbeaten 28-ball 45, as Churches closed on 231-5.

Early wickets from Martin (4-27) and Dean Tomlin (1-55) ensured that the Heytesbury chase didn’t get going despite resistance from Olly Hares (42).

Deba Saha (3-32) and Sam Nissanka kept things tight whilst chipping away at the wickets column, with visitors dismissed for 137.

Division 3

BEEHIVE claimed a 104-run success over Ramsbury to maintain their place at the summit.

After being asked to bat first, Beehive saw skipper Neil Harber and Mike Reeves put on 39 for the opening wicket before the latter fell for 10.

Harber was next to fall for 25, while Mike Spong (62) and Lee Hulbert moved the score on to 91-3 with a 40-run third wicket stand, Beehive closing on 219-7.

The hosts quickly made inroads to the Ramsbury batting as Jayke Hudd struck with his third ball, while Steve Taylor took two wickets in two balls.

Hudd claimed his second wicket to leave the visitors reeling on 12-4 after only five overs, and eventually succumbed to 115 all out.

Division 4

BEANACRE 2nd claimed a 46-run success at Royal Wootton Bassett 3rd.

The visitors were quickly reduced to 25-3 after eight overs, with Morgan Marsh-Ballard (4-57) causing the damage.

Phil Meek (44) and Chris Shearn then counter-attacked for Beanacre putting on 98 in 12 overs.

Tim Carpenter (11) then joined Shearn to share a fifth-wicket partnership of 43, while Chris Long (16) and the latter enjoyed a 40-run stand.

Shearn reached his century before being dismissed for 103 as Beanacre went on to close on 243-8.

Yasir Irshad flew out of the block in the first few overs of Bassett’s reply as they scored 61 in the opening eight overs.

However, Mark Mullis made the breakthrough with two wickets in two overs - including Irshad for 39.

Tight bowling from Carpenter (2-30) and Tom Watling (3-42) brought the visitors back into it, before Long finished the innings with 3-17.

Thirteen-year-old Prav Chahal made an excellent 71 for Bassett as they were bowled out for 197.

Division 6

BEEHIVE 2nd claimed a seven-wicket success at Marshfield 3rd.

Phil Stockley (4-14) picked up three wickets in four overs to leave the hosts 17-3.

Marshfield steadied the ship, before Ady Day (4-18) took wickets at regular intervals, as the hosts were dismissed for 89 in the 41st over.

In reply, Nigel Reeves made a whirlwind impact after scoring a six on the third ball faced before being dismissed two deliveries later.

Ivan Mahany and Ash Rendell (26) put on a 74-run second wicket stand as the latter fell.

Mahany (42) stood on his stumps before Day and Graham Fone guided the visitors to victory in the 16th over.
