WILTSHIRE will seal victory in their opening Unicorns Championship Western Division clash of the season on Wednesday providing they can take 10 Dorset wickets in Bournemouth.

The visitors closed day two in a commanding position after bowling their hosts out well short of their own first innings of 357, then declaring their second innings to leave Dorset an unlikely 403 to win.

The home side had knocked off 20 of those runs in the final eight overs of the day but, more realistically, needed to bat out the day to deny Mike Coles' men the perfect start to their Western Division title defence.

Dorset resumed their first innings on 89-3 this morning but added only another 123 before being dismissed today.

Luke Webb (49) and Jake Lintott (41) registered competitive scores for the hosts, but the bowling of Joe King (3-53) and first-innings centurion Ed Young (3-29) as well as Jake Roberts (2-54) saw them dismissed for just 212.

Already holding a lead of 145, Wiltshire set about building an unassailable advantage and openers Luke De Souza (46) and Uzi Qureshi (63) added 106 for the opening wicket.

Young continued his first-innings heroics with a run-a-ball 55 and knocks of 27 from Trowbridge's Mike Reynolds, wicketkeeper Michael Bates (25) and Ashur Morrison (21) allowed Coles' men to declare on 258-6.

Dorset negotiated a tricky spell before stumps without loss but faced a mountain to survive on Wednesday's final day.
