ADAM Mitchell’s isn’t likely to forget his first season with Lacock in a hurry after he wrote his name in the club’s record books last weekend.

The 20-year-old batsman, who lives in Melksham, smashed a towering unbeaten 221 in his side’s totla of 268-6 as they beat Beckington by 134 runs in Division One on Saturday, a club-record score.

The former Corsham player understandably blazed past his own previous best total and was delighted to be the star of the show.

“When I turned up, people said ‘Beckington bowled us out for 30-odd last season’. And they were quite good,” said Mitchell.

“I opened and got 50 from the first 20 overs. Wickets were falling, so I decided to go for it and I got to 100 with 15 to go.

“Then, I just wanted to get to 150 and after that, I thought ‘the double-hundred is on here’.

“My best score before that was 150-odd against the Isle of Wight for Wiltshire and that was for the U16s.

“I’ve played for Corsham’s first and second team and I almost gave up on cricket at the end of last year because I got a new job and wanted to concentrate on that.

“I decided to play village cricket for a year. A few people chirp up at me in the field but I’m enjoying it.”

Hosts Lacock closed their innings on 268-6 before Steve Copland ripped through the visitors with 7-33 as Beckington were skittled out for 134.

Bradford on Avon and Nationwide House had to settle for a tie in their match.

However, a flurry of wickets and run outs put Nationwide back in with a chance as Bradford required three from the final ball.

Wootton Bassett maintained their perfect start to the season as they defeated Swindon Civil Service by five wickets.
