CORSHAM got the better of a titanic battle against local rivals Bath, edging to a dramatic one-wicket win in the final over of the match.

The victory was the third from four games this season for Ashur Morrison’s men, who are in a three-way tie with Taunton St Andrews and Bridgwater on 64 points at the head of the table.

“It is a very good victory against a tough Bath side,” said Morrison who is recovering after top-edging the ball into his face while batting.

“Considering the runs we chased, I think a Corsham team in the past would have struggled to chase down that amount.

“We were confident because we have chased down 253 against Downend this season and Corsham’s wicket is always flatter and a lot easier to bat on as the day goes on.

“They didn’t take too many risks, so we had confidence going into the chase.

“My heart was pounding towards the end and it wasn’t easy to watch, but what a fantastic game of cricket.''

“I am very pleased to have got off to a good start but there is still a long way to go so I am not taking the table into consideration at the moment.”

Bath elected to bat at Station Road and although Nick Harrison (2-67) removed opener Joseph Barrett early on, his partner Robin Lett excelled.

Lett fell two short of a deserved century when he was removed by Michael Coles thanks to a smart stumping by Simon Crampton but Sam Mount finished unbeaten on 104 off just 61 balls as Bath posted a daunting 292-7.

Corsham were positive in their reply and reached the 100 mark with only Steve Bullen back in the hutch.

Andy Davis (46), captain Morrison (23), Coles (42), Scrampton (36) and Harrison (30*) all made contributions and Morrison’s men looked well placed at 270-6 but then lost three wickets for 14 runs.

However, Harrison and last man Joseph King got the job done with just two balls to spare.

Morrison has been given the all clear by the doctor to face fourth placed Taunton Deane at the weekend.

“It’s another tough fixture and I think Taunton Dean are very much in the running to finish high up.

“They are the a very strong side and have managed to keep the same side who performed well for them last year.

“But we are going in with confidence with three victories under our belt.”
