THE PALMER brothers proved to be Great Bedwyn’s perfect dynamic duo as they combined to blow away Malmesbury last weekend.

Captain John Palmer and elder brother Rob both smashed unbeaten centuries as Bedwyn racked up their second victory of the season whilst there was a third major protagonist in their triumph at Frog Lane as Chris Blundy claimed a fine six-wicket haul to wrap up victory for the home side.

“Chris Blundy got off to a good start alongside myself and was unlucky to get out,” said the Bedwyn skipper.

“But whenever Rob comes in, he just makes it so much easier for you to bat. We got a really good score but to be honest, we didn’t actually bowl that well to start with.

“But in the end, Chris got himself six wickets and Tom Smith came in late and helped finish things off with two wickets at the end."

Malmesbury won the toss and put Bedwyn into bat, and they were soon made to regret that decision as John Palmer hit an unbeaten 109.

After Blundy was dismissed for 35, Rob Palmer came in and smashed 127 not out from just 89 deliveries as the home side posted a formidable 310-1.

George Royle attempted to offer up some resistance for Jack Ward’s visitors with a knock of 55 but he fell to Blundy, who continued to tear through the Malmesbury order on his way to figures of 6-15, with the away side skittled for 139 midway through the 34th over.

Elsewhere, Marlborough eked out a single-wicket victory in a low-scoring affair against Devizes.

Devizes batted first after winning the toss but despite Tom Pike making 22, they were put under constant pressure, George Fox (4-11) and Will Langton (3-16) doing the damage as the visitors were dismissed for just 86.

But Marlborough didn’t have things all their own way either and saw nine batsman fail to make double figures, Pike taking 4-13, but Tom Palmer’s 53 helped Arran Dickinson’s men reach 87-9.

Calne got themselves off the mark in the Wiltshire Division with a hard-fought 32-run win at Marshfield – their first triumph of the season.

Dan Knight’s men were put in to bat first after losing the toss and opener Tom Richards top-scored with 43.

Sean Adams chipped in with 31 whilst Tom Crosby (24) contributed late on but three wickets apiece for Russell Lodge and William Pascall saw the visitors dismissed for 183.

Pascall led Marshfield’s run chase with a knock of 50 whilst William Johnson added 36 but the Calne attack then took charge, Joseph Clare and Matthew Richards taking 3-30 and 3-13 respectively as the home side were skittled for 151.
