DARRAN Freegard and Luke Woodcock had Biddestone in a spin as Burbage & Easton Royal claimed a 20-run victory in a low-scoring contest.

Burbage won the toss and elected to bat but were never able to build momentum as wickets fell regularly.

After the openers fell early, Sourish Mukherjee and Woodcock (34) set about rebuilding the innings before Liam Boulton came on to rip out the middle order, taking 4-35 and leaving Burbage reeling on 86-6.

Skipper Tom Wallbridge and Adam Lavis took the score to 121 before Naeem Khan (3-12) and Stuart Kingwell (2-18) finished things off, taking the last four wickets for just 16 runs as Burbage were dismissed for 137.

In reply, Biddestone lost Alex Williams early but then Dominic Hendricks (30) and Dwaine Perry (29) briefly threatened to take the game away from Burbage.

However, the introduction of spin in to the attack proved decisive as Woodcock (3-18) and Freegard (4-18) combined to take control.

Only Biddestone captain Andy Flynn (32) offered any real resistance and once he fell, the innings crumbled to 117 all out.

Burbage captain Wallbridge said: “The pitch was slow, so it was difficult scoring. We were disappointed with 137 and we felt we could have got to the 180 mark.

“Luke anchored the innings well but when he got out, myself and Adam were able to put a nice partnership together as at that stage, it looked like we could have been bowled out for 100. So to get 137 was good.

“We still knew that wasn’t a par score but we have got three good spinners and we know we can defend low totals if we get early wickets and put the pressure on. They are always going to be a handful on a slow track.

“The big wickets were Perry and Hendricks but we got them out in quick succession and that turned the game in our favour.”

Ankit Shastri’s unbeaten 124 condemned Chippenham to an eight-wicket defeat at Warminster.

Batting first, the visitors were only able to post 204-7, with the hosts' Graham Cuthbertson claiming 4-31.

Warminster made light work of the run chase, with Shastri’s heroics seeing them to the target for the loss of just two wickets and with more than 13 overs to spare.
