AFTER their rain-off in week one, Goatacre skipper Ed Wilkins was pleased to see his side finally get on the board in West of England Premier Two, as they beat Weston Super Mare by four wickets.

Craig Gibbens (4-23) and Giorgio Rigali (2-26) were the stars of the show for the Goats, who won the toss and elected to field as they shared their visitors first six wickets.

Wicketkeeper Toby Horton snaffled his first two of four catches, as Rigali dismissed WSM’s opener and number three with their score less than 30. Then Gibbens took over, removing the away side's next three visitors to the crease.

Another Gibbens snare was sandwiched by a Kevin Iles dismissal, before overseas player Tendai Maruma came on to mop up the tail to leave WSM 69 all out.

In reply, Goatacre got home mostly thanks to Jack Haines 20-ball 38, but others around him struggled. Wilkins was the only other man to break double figures as his side shipped six wickets.

The skipper was a bit disappointed to miss out on potential bonus points but ultimately, was pleased to get the season off to a winning start.

“Really, it was like our first game, because that was cancelled so it was good to get off to a start,” said Wikins.

“With everyone playing that first week, it’s kind of like a loss really, only getting six points.

“It would have been nice if we’d only lost one or two wickets but just getting the win was the main thing.

“The pitch was wet. It was hard work.”

Elsewhere in the division, Potterne continued their winning start to the season with an eight-wicket success at Lechlade.

Dylan Higgins and Joshua De Souza shared three wickets apiece as the hosts were skittled out for 151.

For Potterne, Ed Young finished unbeaten on two short of a half-century, as he and Sahan Wijerathne shared an 78-run fourth-wicket partnership to guide the visitors to victory.
