WE had a couple of Twenty20 games this week to warm up for the competition – our first game is next Friday but we’ve got a four-day game at Headingley in the week, so there’s isn’t a lot of time to prepare.

We had a friendly against Dorset on Monday and then the second team played two games against Sussex on Tuesday. We had pretty much a full-strength side out, though.

To be honest, I couldn’t tell you what the scores were but we lost one game and won the other - Luke Wright hit a century for them.

It was just a good opportunity to get used to some white-ball cricket again. The results didn’t really matter and it was just a chance for us to get ready for the first game against Essex.

I felt that I bowled quite well. I did get knocked about a little bit in one of the games but that’s the nature of Twenty20 cricket because you’ve got to be aggressive.

If I’m honest, I don’t think that I’ll start the competition because Will Smith has been doing really well.

I think that I’m in competition with him and it’s up to me to try and perform to push my way into the team.

I want to be batting further up the order and it’s something that I’ve spoken to the coaches about. It might not mean playing more this year but maybe more in the future.

It’s important because Twenty20 is the most exciting form of the game and you want to be playing in it.

It’s going to be a big game against Yorkshire next week and they’re going to have their four or five England players back.

They’re probably the best four-day side in the country and it’s good to test yourself against players like that.

If you’ve got aspirations of playing international cricket yourself, you need to see the mark you need to reach when you play against those guys.

Worcestershire won this week and they’re the other side that came up with us. We need to try and get that first win in Division One to prove that we belong to be here, which we definitely do.

It’s going to be tough against Yorkshire but we need to do everything we can to try and dominate the game.
