LIAM Dawson has flown out on an Asian adventure as he looks to put himself in the shop window and earn a place in next year’s Bangladesh Premier League.

Gazette & Herald columnist and Hampshire all-rounder Dawson flew out to Bangladesh last Sunday after agreeing to join Essex and England’s Ravi Bopara at Dhaka Premier Division outfit Prime Bank.

The 23-year-old Goatacre ace, who passed the 1,000-run mark for his side last season, will spend the next three weeks playing 50-over cricket in the Bangladeshi capital.

He says he couldn’t resist the opportunity to ply his trade abroad this winter, despite an unsuccessful stint in Zimbabwe two years ago.

“I haven’t done anything since the start of the season, but the opportunity came up and I felt that it was too good to turn down,” said Dawson, who will also be accompanied by Hampshire team-mate Sean Ervine.

“I’d been talking to a few different teams for two or three weeks, but Ravi spoke to me about Prime Bank and everything got sorted out from there.

“It’s going to be all hotel-based so there shouldn’t be any problems with where I’m living.

“I’ve been on holiday since the end of the season and I’m sure I might be a bit rusty, but that’s up to me to deal with and hopefully I can hit a few runs and take a few wickets.

“I was planning on putting myself in for the auction for the Bangladesh Premier League anyway, but going over there now will give me the chance to impress the coaches over there.

“I’m putting myself in the shop window and hopefully I can get picked up by a franchise and be playing Twenty20 cricket after Christmas.”
