TOM Wallbridge is counting on a favour from his former side Marlborough as Burbage & Easton Royal look to pip Swindon to the Wiltshire Division title this weekend.

Burbage sit nine points behind the league leaders going in to the final weekend of the season and the Burbage skipper is hoping that his side can be in pole position to take advantage if Swindon slip up at their local rivals.

“I don’t think that bonus points are going to come in to it and we’ve got to hope that Swindon slip up and we win our game (away to Devizes),” said Wallbridge.

“Marlborough are a good side and I’m sure they’ll want to get a good result, so hopefully they can do that to help us out.

“I’m sure that there’ll be whispers of what’s going on during both games on Saturday but we’ve got to concentrate on winning our game to take advantage.

“If Swindon win the league, then they’ll have deserved it – we’ve still had a good season.”

Michael Papps hit 91 as Burbage won by 48 runs at Trowbridge.

Sourish Mukherjee (32), David Cope (25) and Wallbridge (24) all also contributed as the visitors posted 209-7.

Trowbridge’s first three wickets fell for just eight runs and despite Wesley Fernando hitting 57, the hosts were skittled for just 161 in the 46th over.

Meanwhile, Marlborough notched up a comprehensive 159-run victory at Winsley.

Ben Head (40) and Marlborough skipper Tom Norris (38) set the tone before Peter Day hit 51 as the visitors posted a commanding 245-8 Then spinners Ed Rothwell (4-24) and Head (3-17) did the damage as Winsley crumbled, eventually being skittled for a lowly 86.

Sean Adams hit 59 as Calne got the better of Devizes last weekend.

Devizes’ Jon Couch and George Dunford both claimed three wickets but Dan Knight’s hosts posted 218-9 before piling the pressure on Devizes through Darren Holcombe (3-27) and Courtney Earl (3-47).

Devizes captain Joe Wookey hit 53 but his side were skittled for 168 in the 43rd over.

Great Bedwyn were unable to cause an upset at Swindon as they were hammered by 146 runs but Marshfield’s Russell Lodge starred as his side beat Nationwide House.

Lodge hit a towering 110 as his side posted 252-6 before taking three wickets as the hosts were skittled for 216 in the penultimate over.
