POTTERNE put a winless July behind them by getting back to winning ways at Chipping Sodbury last weekend.

Neil Clark’s side, who had previously last tasted victory against Painswick on June 29, batted first after winning the toss, with Tom Cullen putting the visitors in control as he smacked 107.

Ollie Smith was also in fine form with the bat as he weighed in with 73 whilst skipper Clark chipped in with 34.

Chipping Sodbury’s Jamie Wakefield claimed two wickets but failed to slow down Potterne, who declared on 270-6 after 44 overs.

Richard Howell led the home side’s fightback with a knock of 72 while Wakefield offered up some resistance as he made 46.

Potterne’s Joshua De Souza turned the screw by claiming 3-35 and despite Chipping Sodbury’s Jamie Rendell and Craig Scully hitting 29 and 24 respectively, the hosts ultimately fell short.

Sahan Wijerathne also took 2-35 as Chipping Sodbury finished on 221-8.

Potterne will go looking to make it back-to-back victories in the Glos/Wilts Division when they go to struggling Stroud this weekend.

Biddestone were knocked off the top of the table as their match against Painswick was abandoned.

After winning the toss and putting their visitors in, Biddestone toiled early on as Painswick opener Johnathon Griffiths (19) and skipper Mike King (72*) put on 49 for the first wicket.

Josh Boulton broke up the partnership with the wicket of Griffiths and two more run-outs left them on 139-4 off 40 overs.

Biddestone were 5-0 when the weather forced a permanent halt to proceedings, handing the frustrated home side only seven match points.

Lechlade took full advantage to seize top spot as they defeated Rockhampton by 13 runs.

Niel Bredenkamp’s side face a crucial trip to Lechlade this weekend.

Chippenham’s Wiltshire clash with Westbury also failed to last the distance.

The home side won the toss and put in Westbury, who lie one place above them in the table.

Westbury lost wicketkeeper Jared Mcdonald early on, caught by Michael Torr off Craig Fry, for just three before Torr bowled Simon Rose for 23.

Torr then claimed Robert Hislop, Arran Merryweather with the catch, for a duck before Richard Mills (42) and Lydeon Gibbons (51) put on 73 for the fourth wicket.

Late hitting from Dan Gill (10*) and Patrick Joseph (22*) helped Westbury close on 174-6.

The match was abandoned before Chippenham, who are away at Painswick this weekend, could start their reply.
