TOM Wallbridge believes Burbage & Easton Royal must aim to win every one of their four remaining matches this season – not just this weekend’s summit battle.

Burbage took full advantage of cancellations elsewhere as they moved up to the top of the Wiltshire Division with victory over Winsley last weekend.

Wallbridge’s side travel to second-placed Swindon this Saturday but the Burbage skipper thinks that the result won’t decide the fate of the title.

“Every game in the second half of the season has been massive for us and I don’t think the game against Swindon will decide who wins the league,” said Wallbridge.

“We’ve both still got good teams to play and I think we’ve got to win all of our games.”

Michael Papps hit 91 against Winsley whilst Wallbridg made 49, with the hosts posting 215-8.

Darren Freegard then tore through Winsley with the ball, taking 5-26 as the visitors were skittled for just 118 in the 47th over.

Persistent heavy rain foiled Swindon’s attempts to maintain leadership of the division as their match at Calne was abandoned.

A delayed start saw Calne’s innings reduced to 29 overs, from which they made 116-6, George Sykes scoring 50 and Sean Adams 29.

Michael Wilson took 2-17, but Swindon’s second innings was unable to start.

Marshfield picked up their third victory of the season as they saw off Great Bedwyn by a single run.

The visitors amassed 207-5 from their 50 overs, Russell Lodge leading the way with an unbeaten 77.

William Johnson provided back-up with a patient 46, Robert Palmer taking 2-37 for Bedwyn.

Palmer also led the reply, scoring 66, but despite 26 from skipper Dan Swatton and an unbeaten 26 from Alistair Tuttle, extras proved the next biggest contributor with 28.

Calum Burnstone’s 4-52 helped Marshfield, as did 3-24 from Johnston as the home side, who have now lost five of their last six league matches, came up a run short.

The matches between Devizes and Nationwide House and Trowbridge and Marlborough were cancelled.
