DAWSON: Trying to get on a winner in the t20

11:39am Thursday 4th August 2011

THE players all got a few days off at the end of last week and it was good to have a little break.

I got the chance to go over the Glorious Goodwood races with a few of the other boys and it was nice to get away from cricket for a little bit – there were a few decent winners there!

Then on Sunday we had a really good win over Leicestershire in the CB40.

I did all right with an unbeaten 12 at the end of our innings but Sean Ervine did really well for us and got 136 – it was a great effort.

It was also good to see Neil McKenzie back after a while out and he got a good 72 too.

We’ve done quite well in the CB40 recently but because we lost quite a few games at the beginning of the competition, we can’t qualify out of the group and we’re just using it as preparation for the T20 quarter-final.

When you read this, we’ll still be in the middle of the four-day game against Yorkshire and we were up against it after the first day.

The wicket wasn’t doing anything for us and it was pretty much a batter’s one because it wasn’t any good for spin or seam.

They got a big score and we knew that we’d have to bat well ourselves to stand a chance but we’ll just have to see how it ends.

We haven’t really talked too much about the quarter-final against Durham yet but it’s in the back of all the players’ minds because it’s an important game.

It’s great that we’ll be playing at home and in a knockout competition in any sport, it’s always a big advantage to be at home - hopefully we can get ten or 12 thousand fans in there to make it a good atmosphere.

I was back in the team for the last few T20 matches so I’d hope to be involved on the day and hopefully we can do it.
