DAWSON: Making the most of chance

12:14pm Thursday 14th July 2011

THINGS have been going well for me in the last week and hopefully, by the time people read this, we’ll have sneaked a win in our four-day game against Sussex.

It’s been a really strange game because it’s been so low-scoring and I hadn’t really been involved in a game like that this season.

We’ve been doing all right though and we needed to have a good first session on the final day yesterday – if we did that, and got about 250 runs, then hopefully that would have set us up to get the win.

I had the highest score in our first innings with 38 and then I also got 29 in the second, so I’ve been doing quite well.

The best thing to happen for me is that I’m back in the Twenty20 side.

That has come because Michael Lumb got injured though and that’s a blow for us because he’s an important player in that competition – it looks like he’ll miss the rest of the T20 campaign.

But it’s given me an opportunity now and I had a good knock (26) at the Oval against Surrey.

That was really good to be involved in because there were 13,000 people there and it was a great atmosphere.

We also made sure of our place in the quarter-finals with a win (over Sussex) over the weekend – that’s three quarter-finals in three years and we’re really happy about that.

We’ll get a home tie for the quarters and whoever we get in the draw, we’re confident that we can win and maybe even get all the way through to finals day.

We produce good spinning wickets and have got really good spin bowlers that can cause problems.

I’m hoping to be playing in that quarter-final and if I do well, then I’d love to be involved if we get to finals day.

We’ve got one more T20 game before that though, against Middlesex on Friday night.

It’s also Caribbean night at the Rose Bowl because we’re sponsored by the Barbados Tourism Authority – there’ll be a few reggae bands and tasty food at the ground so there should be a good atmosphere.
