LIAM DAWSON: In form, but team needs lift

11:30am Friday 6th May 2011

IT’S been a very good week for me personally but a disappointing one for the club and we need to do something quickly to get out of this trouble.

It’s always good to score a first class century because they don’t come around that often and it was a proud moment for me.

(The 169 against Somerset) was also only my second one but it was good to beat my first score, which was 100 not out.

I’ve been opening all this year so far and that’s mainly because Michael Carberry’s been injured but it’s an opportunity for me and I’m happy to try and make the most of it.

I also played quite nicely on Monday (against Surrey in the CB40) but I probably should have hung around longer before I got out and I hold my hands up for that one.

I want to try and help my team by making the most of my form at the moment, because when you’re not in form, I know that they’ll do their best to help me.

The results have still not been very good in the last two games and we’re the players who get paid to perform for the club and we’ve let the club down a bit.

But the important thing is that it’s still only May and there’s a lot of cricket still left to play.

We’re bottom of the County Championship and we do want to get away from there as soon as possible but last year, we didn’t even win any of the first six games of the season and we still went on to win a trophy at the end of it all.

Hampshire is a great club and we’ve got a great bunch of lads here.

People are saying that we’ve started poorly and they’re not wrong but there’s a lot of cricket to go yet.

We’ve just got to try and take the games one at a time and that’s started with the local derby against Sussex this week.

If we can all start giving an extra five per cent, then hopefully we can start pushing on and maybe it will start in this game.

The preparations haven’t been any different because it’s a local derby but it’s time for us to step up and hopefully my form can carry on too.
