FRIDAY night’s derby game in the Twenty20 really did live up to expectations and it ended up being a massive two points for us.

Going to Hove to play Sussex is always a tough game but we’ve done quite well there over the last few years, especially in one-day cricket.

Everybody contributed with the ball and on a personal level, it was nice to get two wickets.

Neil McKenzie had an absolutely superb knock too and showed all of us young batsmen what you can achieve if you stay calm in those kinds of scenarios, even in Twenty20, which can be so hectic.

We ended up winning with three balls to spare.

He’s a legend and I think that he’s getting even better with age.

It was nice to send Sussex down the table because it was almost like a final for them – they need to win every game now to have any chance.

For us, we’re only a few points behind Surrey with two games in hand, so we’re in a good position.

Our Championship game against Glamorgan finishes today and we looked at it as a must-win game, so hopefully we’ll get what we’re after.

Four-day cricket is difficult but we know that we need to start winning in the County Championship because Northamptonshire and Lancashire have got a little bit of a lead.

We had a good first day and I got a few runs on the board, which was nice.

I also found out after the day’s play that I’d passed 3,000 runs for Hampshire and hopefully that’s the first milestone of many for me.

As a player, you never really know about these kind of things when you go in to games, and its only on the internet that you find out about them, but it’s obviously a nice achievement to get.

I want to carry on playing for another ten or 15 years.

We’ll see what happens but, hopefully, I’ll get to a few more milestones before the end of my career.
