PREMIER DIVISION

Robson Taylor, Chippenham League Premier division leaders Biddestone Social and second placed Corsham Centre A continue to match each other blow for blow.

Both teams overcame potential banana skins to stretch their unbeaten runs to 13 matches.

Biddestone Social are currently three points ahead of the defending champions but they made hard work of defeating Box Rovers who played the first 45 minutes with just 10 men and the second half with nine after an eye injury forced Dan Harvey to seek hospital treatment. Despite the numerical disadvantage Rovers were in the game for long periods and gave the leaders who had the better of the game a few scary moments before they finally nailed their guests to Yatton Road with a 2-1 win.

Rovers held out for 40 minutes, but Ryan Trowbridge who headed home a Rob Pocock corner to give them the lead after James Tindell had rattled the bar on 23 minutes and Jamie Lyons had hit the post in the 26th minute broke their resistance.

Danny Jones doubled Biddy's lead in the 54th minute when he knocked home a John OíMeara cross and although Rovers replied late on through Liam Fullam it wasnít enough to deny Biddestone their 13th straight win. Biddestone know that they didnít play at all well but they also know that if they can continue to grind out victories in their remaining seven matches then they will be crowned 2008 champions come May.

Biddestone's main challengers are going to be Corsham Centre A who beat Miller Sports 5-1 at the Beeches, Shaw to end their hosts five match unbeaten run and Westbury Rangers A who were without a game.

The Centre made the perfect start against the Miller boys when attacker for the day Rob Stephens squared the ball for Simon Gray to score after just 45 seconds. On 25 minutes Gary turned provider for Stephens whose delightfully lobbed Miller's keeper Nick Evans to make it 2-0. Despite the valiant efforts of father and son combination of Mickey and Shane Godsell to stop his shot crossing the line the impressive Nick Ridout pulled a goal back for Miller on 40 minutes, for Ridout it was his first outing since finishing a recent 20 match ban that he picked up while playing for Westbury United in the Toolstation League. The Centre regained their two goal lead in the 45th minute when Simon Gray's far post cross saw Liam Ralph sprint in to strike the ball home from a very tight angle. The second half was only a minute old when Shane Godsell volleyed home number four. The Centreís fifth came 15 minutes from time when Dan King sent over a fight footed cross which Shane Godsell headed back across goal for Rob Stephens to net his second of the match and complete the scoring for the Centre. Miller went close to scoring a second late on when Ridout rasped a shot against the bar.

The relegation battle between Calne based rivals North Star A who are currently rock bottom and Maud Heath Sports who are just clear of the drop zone ended in a goalless draw as neither side could come up with an all important winning goal. Maud Heath created the better of the chances and the Star were indebted to stand in goal keeper Phil Loud who was covering for Jamie Bartlett as he did well to prevent Maud Heath from hitting the target on a number of occasions.

Bradford News lack of a first class finisher is likely to prove costly come the end of the season as once again the newsmen created more chances that than their opponents but failed to do any damage in front of goal until it was too late. Bradford hosted Holt and poor defending allowed the visitors to take a three goal lead in the opening 25 minutes, Oli Gee scored Holtís opener on two minutes and Neil Grant made it 2-0 in the 18th minute when he drove home a brilliant free kick from 25 yards out. Rob OíHarrowís simple tap in midway through the half made it 3-0 and at this stage it was looking as if Holt would run up a cricket score. The expected avalanche of goals never came as Bradford raised their game in the second period and hit the post through Tom Downing before Mark Maguire drove home their consolation into the roof of the net from an acute angle 12 minutes from time, but even after that the newsmen had enough chances too turned the game around and get at least a point from the encounter, but again woeful finishing was to be their downfall.

Winsley probably played their best 90 minutes of football of the season away at FC Colerne who they defeated 6-0 to register their first win in five outings and only their seventh victory of the season. Winsley played against the Colerne slope in the first half and took a two goal lead though efforts from Neil Hannaford and Neil Kirkpatrick who scored from the penalty spot. Winsley almost scored a third when goalkeeper Stuart Powell took a free kick 60 yards from the Colerne goal and his audacious shot was just turned over the bar by the Colerne keeper. The second period saw Winsley boss the game and Chris Tricker added number three before Mike Little scored the goal of the game when he netted after a brilliant team move that saw Winsley play keep ball for three minutes before Little scored to give the move the finish that it deserved. Chris Trickerís second of the game took the scoreline to 5-0 prior to Little wrapping things up with his second of the game and Winsley sixth.

In midweek Dog & Fox Ashley did well to pick themselves up after the disappointment of last weekends knockout cup semi-final shoot out defeat against Westbury Rangers A. Dog & Fox hosted Box Rovers at St Laurence School, Bradford and due to the visitors being held up by traffic delays the game never kicked off until 6.35 and was reduced to 70 minutes in length and resulted in honours being shared as the sides battled out an uneventful 1-1 draw. Steve Roddy missed a guilt edged chance to put the Dog & Fox ahead after two minutes and he was made to pay for his miss two minutes later when Sam Lye scored to give Rovers the lead. Rovers held their advantage until the 60th minute of the 70 minute match when Steve Wickings netted to the hosts their point.

Semington Rovers entertained relegation threatened Maud Heath Sports on Thursday night and they heaped more misery of the Calne based side with their narrow 2-1 success that leaves Semington looking a good bet to finish in fifth place in their first season in the top flight and Maud Heath struggling to stay in the division. Stuart Barber who scored a hat trick at the weekend in Semingtonís 6-3 victory over Bradford News was Maud Heathís tormentor in chief, Barber was gifted Semingtonís opener when keeper Jodi Whiston dropped the ball at his feet and he pocked the ball home form an acute angle on 10 minutes. Semington doubled their lead in the 25th minute, more good work from Barber saw him fire the ball across the face of goal from the tightest of angles and Kelvin Lockwood was on hand to bundled the ball home to make it 2-0. Semington were kept in the game by stand in keeper Allan Clarke who produced an outstanding double save to deny Dave Herring. The second half saw Barber rattle the woodwork before Maud Heath pulled a goal back when keeper Clarke misjudged an Adie Simpkins corner and allowed to sail into the net. Both sides looked to add further goals but were unable to find the target again and on the balance of play over the 90 minutes Semington just edged the game and deserved the victory.
