Badman knows players could leave
Proud: Mark Badman
Proud: Mark Badman

Mark Badman realises, with Chippenham Town consigned to another season in the Southern League Premier Division, some young starlets might leave.

The Bluebirds suffered play-off heartbreak for the third time in four years after losing 2-1 at Halesowen last night.

And midfielder Badman, who has lost to Hednesford and Bedford in 2005 and 2006 respectively, knows after their promotion failure could see some of their promising talent snapped up by higher league clubs.

He said: "It is always a concern. Some players have had a good season and they are going to get offers but it is down to them.

"If they want to further their career they will go but if they think Chippenham will help them do that then maybe they will stay.

"It is down to the individual but I love the club and I don't want to leave."

But the 28-year-olds fully expects to see some changes at Hardenhuish Park during the summer.

He said: "There are always going to be some changes and Adie (Mings, manager) will like to freshen it up. It would be good to have a couple of fresh faces as well as keeping the lads together.

"If we lose one or two it's life, that is football."

But he believes, whether his young teammates stay or go, they can take vital experience from the defeat at The Grove.

"We have to take the positives from the season," he said.

"We have got a young squad and they have got to learn from it and in the long run it has given us a good experience and will stand us in good stead."

And Badman, who was an unused substitute in last night's game and Tuesday's abandoned clash, echoed thoughts the Bluebirds had over achieved in reaching the play-offs.

"We have over achieved and nobody expected us to finish fourth," he said.

"We are a young side and a new side and before the season a lot of the lads had not played together."
