Harvey feels officials made a big mistake

Iain Harvey feels Ross Adams shouldn't have been sent off because Halesowen striker Eldon Maquemba was offside in the build up.

The Yeltz frontman latched on to a long ball to outpace Adams, who brought him down in the box to concede a penalty and receive a straight red card.

Dean Brennan drove the 72nd minute penalty beyond Chris Snoddy to equalise Sam Allison's earlier goal.

The hosts capitalised on their man advantage as Maquemba scored the winner after 79 minutes but Chippenham Town captain Harvey feels the officials made a mistake.

"He was offside, by a good three yards," raged the skipper.

"One ball over he top caught us but he was offside. Ross had to make the tackle and there was only one outcome."

But, despite the injustice, the midfielder feels Halesowen were the superior side on the night.

"They were the better side and we can't have any excuses," he said.

"We were geared up for Tuesday's game and we would rather it wasn't called off because we would have won it.

"We gave it our all but it wasn't enough."

The Bluebirds' task was made harder by Adams' sending off but Harvey doesn't blame his teammate.

He said: "Ross has been absolutely outstanding all year, he is gutted but losing was not down to him.

"We were beaten by a fresher side and we have to hold our hands up."

And now 30-year-old Harvey is looking ahead to a title challenge next year.

He said: "Gary Kemp came up with a good point. We have got to find 12-15 points next season so we don't have to go through this again.

"We have to go away and come back stronger next year. Everyone has done themselves proud this season.

"But at the moment it is an empty feeling."

The squad are heading for their end of season break at Butlins in Minehead next weekend and Harvey believes they have to forget about their play-off woes.

He said: "We have got our weekend away so we can go and have some drinks and get it out of our system.

"We have to learn from this, I know it is a cliché but we have done everything we can."
