CHIPPENHAM TOWN: Stourbridge 1 Chippenham Town 0

It was a disappointing trip to the West Midlands for Chippenham Town on Saturday as they were beaten 1-0 by Stourbridge.

The Bluebirds began the game brightly but were given a scare on nine minutes when the hosts had the ball in the net.

Sam Rock went on a mazy run and as the Chippenham defence met the Stourbridge full-back, the ball crept through to Ryan Rowe, who slotted it past Chris Snoddy.

However, the goal was ruled out for offside.

On 26 minutes, it was the Bluebirds’ full-back’s turn to go on a run when Greg Tindle linked up with Lewis Powell, but the striker saw his shot deflected into the side netting.

Midway through the half, James Martin’s corner was acrobatically helped on by Alex Kite but Powell could only prod the ball into keeper Lewis Solley’s arms.

On 39 minutes, Stourbridge made the game’s only breakthrough.

Winger Sean Evans went down in the Chippenham box after a clash with Tindle and referee Daniel Meeson pointed to the spot.

Striker Rowe took the penalty, blasting the ball down the middle of the goal to give the hosts the lead.

The Bluebirds started the second-half in the same way that they began the first with Martin’s curling effort from just outside the area whistling past the crossbar.

Just minutes later, Chippenham created their best chance of the match after Ashley Williams picked out Scott Lye to the left of the Stourbridge area.

The midfielder floated a cross toward Alan Griffin but Solley somehow turned the Bluebirds striker’s low effort past the post.

Stourbridge created just one clear cut chance in the second period, Nathan Bennett sending a powerful header goalwards from Drew Canavan’s free-kick, but Chris Snoddy was equal to it.

With just over ten minutes to go, Substitute Danny Wring found himself in the clear on the left-hand side of the host’s area.

The winger’s low shot rebounded back to him off Solley and he chipped a ball to the far post.

Griffin rose highest but the striker saw his header loop wide and Chippenham saw their last chance of a disappointing afternoon pass them by.

The Bluebirds have been leapfrogged by Stourbridge and now sit in 11th place, nine points from a play-off position.
