Chippenham Town produced a late comeback to beat Evesham United 2-1 at Hardenhuish Park.
The Bluebirds almost raced into an early lead when Danny Wring’s cross took a deflection off an Evesham defender and flashed across the face of the goal.
The first-half saw few clear-cut chances but on 22 minutes, Lewis Powell attempted to create a carbon copy of his goal against Leamington last Tuesday.
The Chippenham striker shifted the ball past a defender but his left-footed shot was claimed by ex-Bluebirds keeper Nathan Vaughan.
Adie Mings’ side went close again when Wring sliced a free-kick, his intended cross dropping onto the roof of the net.
With the game goalless at the break, the visitors came racing out of the traps and caught Chippenham cold after just four minutes of the second period.
Substitute Danny Lennon latched onto a ball played through the heart of the Bluebirds’ defence and as the linesman’s flag remained down, the Evesham striker slotted the ball under the oncoming Chris Snoddy.
Chippenham had their keeper to thank just minutes later after he showed great reactions to produce a double-save and deny another former Bluebird, Marcus Palmer.
Midway through the half, goalscorer Lennon beat the offside trap again but was denied by another smart save from Snoddy.
As it began to look as if the visitors were leaving Wiltshire with three points, Chippenham hit back.
On 84 minutes, a long ball thrust forward by Greg Tindle was met by substitute Alan Griffin on the edge the area.
The striker beat keeper Vaughan to the ball and his header looped into the net to equalise for Mings’ men.
The Bluebirds pushed for the winner and their efforts were rewarded with just a minute of normal time remaining.
Following a period of sustained pressure, substitute Ashley Williams attempted to muscle his way through the Evesham back line.
As the visitors’ defence challenged the full-back, the ball bounced through to striker Powell, who showed great composure to dink the ball past Vaughan and complete the comeback for Chippenham.
Mings’ side travel to 10th placed Stourbridge, who held the Bluebirds to a 2-2 draw in December, on Saturday.
