Belle move could be ringing changes at Chippenham

Chippenham defender Cortez Belle could be the first player to leave Hardenhuish Park as a result of the recent budget cuts – with – Halesowen monitoring his situation.

The board announced two weeks ago that costs would have to be reduced by nearly a third but as yet no regular squad members have been culled.

The delay has even surprised the directors who expected players to leave almost immediately.

But it now seems likely that Belle, 25, who joined Chippenham from North-which Victoria in the summer, will be the first departure.

“I’ve been made aware of the fact that he may be available with them having to juggle their pennies at the moment,” said Halesowen manager Morrell Maison.

“We were very keen to sign him in the summer and thought we were close to it, but he chose Chippenham for a number of reasons.

“I’ve had a couple of conversations with Adie Mings in the past week but no direct contact with the player. If there was an opportunity to sign him then he is a player we’d still be interested in.”

If the deal goes through, Belle will join another former Bluebird in the Midlands after Aaron Cornwall made the switch in the close season.

“We changed our formation to accommodate him and he’s really coming into his own,” said Maison.

“He’s scored two goals in the last three games and we recently fielded an inquiry from a league club for him.”
