Adie Mings Column
There will be no breaks because there is lots to put right
There is an inconsistency which is creeping into our play.
Tuesday's 2-1 defeat at home to Brackley showed that and we have had too many after the Lord Mayor's Show' performances.
The boys thought they had done the hard work already because they had won so impressively 2-0 at Hemel on Saturday.
Earlier in the season we were winning four or five games on the trot or at least not losing for a while but now we are putting in one good performance and then losing.
It is very topsy turvy.
Brackley had come for a point and right from the off set their stall out, kept possession and we couldn't cope with it. It was very frustrating
I didn't lose my rag with the players afterward though.
I did that after the defeat at Mangotsfield and if I keep on doing it then it becomes counter productive. No one will take any notice.
The only good thing is the players get themselves up for big games, like they did against Gloucester and Hemel.
When they know they have to put in a performance they come out firing on all cyclinders.
We have got ourselves into a very good position and a lot of clubs in this league would love to be where we are.
The only problem is we are making things very difficult for ourselves with our inconsistency.
It would be lovely to go into the play-offs on the back of three or four straight wins with confidence oozing. But we are looking disjointed at the moment.
Sometimes our play is great and other times it doesn't look good, but that is something for me to sort out in the next few days.
We don't have a game on Saturday but there will be no breaks for the players -we will be in training tonight, Saturday, Tuesday and Thursday.
I might have given them Saturday off if we had won both games but that is not the case so they will come in to do some work.
There are still too many things address.
It's nine days until our next game at Cheshunt and the break might be the rest we need.
We can recharge the batteries and can then set ourselves up for, hopefully, four big games.
There were some positive to come out of Tuesday though.
David Pratt was excellent again, Scott Lye came back from injury and Luke Hall-Cousins did well.
He plays in the South-West Counties League so he still plays junior football and is very raw and naïve still because he is only 18-years-old.
He plays for the City Academy in Bristol and we have had him in training over the last few weeks and he has done really well.
With Kevin Halliday's predicament, he is on nine bookings and another would mean he would miss the game against Team Bath and the first play-off game, we felt it was the right time to bring Luke in.
