Adie Mings Column
I'm more annoyed with the display than any game I can remember
WE are struggling to put our finger on what happened on Saturday against Rugby.
We started brightly for the first 25 to minutes but then the lads, for whatever reason, stopped what they were doing.
We suddenly became disjointed and weren't at it.
Immediately after the game is not always the best time to dissect what went wrong because emotions are running high, but we spoke about it in training and the players have chipped in with their opinions and are desperate to make amends.
There's never a good time to concede a goal but to let in an equaliser three minutes from the end was a bitter pill to swallow.
I'm more annoyed with Saturday's performance than any game I can remember recently because I really thought the lads would bounce back after their poor showing last midweek.
The boys looked jaded and lacked energy. But perhaps that is only natural for a team missing six players who would normally start.
The players have played a lot of games recently and it is maybe starting to show. This Saturday will be another tough test for us because Merthyr are a very good side who will pose even more of a threat than Rugby did.
We could end up having a difficult afternoon if we are not on our game but we need to get back to the fluid, energetic performance level we were showing earlier in the season.
It's doom and gloom for some people but we are still only three points off top spot. I've spoken to a few managers recently and the top sides in the league are more concerned by us mounting a late title charge than the teams around them.
They feel we are the one side who is capable of putting a run together to storm through the pack, and so do I.
The boys we signed in the summer have gelled quickly and if we can get a few players back fit and a bit of luck, it could be a great end to the season.
I want to end by saying a special thanks to the supporters on Saturday for the way they got behind the lads.
They never turned on us and they helped to create a great atmosphere.
Those are the kind of fans we need for the final run-in.
And those same supporters have been dipping into their pockets to help the club in the Fans Trust initiative.
Hopefully this scheme will bring us all together
It's been a disappointing week on the field but a very positive one off the pitch.
