Adie Mings Column
There have been more highs than lows in my first year
I celebrated a year since my first game on Sunday and the last 12 months have been
absolutely fantastic.
My first game was a 3-0 win over Hitchin Town on January 20 and in my time we have played 50, won 26, drawn ten and lost 14 games.
It is a case of so far, so good and I am just pleased with all the support I have received from the
players, the directors and the fans.
When I took over it was a difficult time for the club but everyone has been excellent and has taken to what I have been trying to do and trying to build.
This is not for the short term, it's for the long term.
With some of the
players we have got, it proves we are not just looking at this season and if we can keep them
together then we will not need massive changes over the next year.
They will grow and get better and hopefully I can learn from any mistakes I have made over the last year.
There have been lots of positives for me to look at since I have been here.
Our early season form, the way the team has gelled together and the quality of players we have brought to the club are just three things.
But I have said
before, it is not just me.
Paul Summers, Tommy Callinan and Gary Kemp have all been excellent and without them we
wouldn't have achieved half the success we have had.
There have been few low times, like every time we lose you feel downhearted but the FA Cup defeat to Horsham was especially disappointing.
The players proved how they can play, just in the last 20 minutes.
The defeat at Gloucester on New Year's Day was easily the worst I have seen us.
But there have been more highs than lows and hopefully we can continue that way.
I'll be looking for our first win of 2008 when we go to Corby Town this Saturday and we will be up against a very good side.
Former Stamford
manager Graham Drury has just gone there so the under-performing players will be fighting for their place.
We've loaned out Dale Peckham and Luke Hopper to Paulton Rovers and Cinderford Town for a month respectively.
Getting some players out is a move so we can look to freshen up a few things.
They need to be playing football and the only way they are going to keep match fit is by playing games.
