Our behind closed doors game was not so secret after all
We organised a behind closed doors friendly with Calne Town on Tuesday -only to discover the Supporters Club were having a meeting in the bar at the same time.
So much for secrecy!
But it was okay, there was nobody on show who shouldn't of been.
Those games are designed to test the players' fitness and it was a good exercise for Sean Seavill, Kye Holly and others who haven't played
recently.
Kes Metitiri is also going to be suspended for four games but we have got Matthew McEntagert coming in for a month.
He is a free agent and has been training with Dorchester. He is a great defender who is big, strong and takes pride in his defending.
He was excellent for myself and Darren when we had him two years ago and I am sure the fans will be glad to see him back.
I have said we are going to have to get people out to get people in, but it was a question of getting the new players on board and then seeing what we can do with others.
There is still the possibility a few could go on loan to get up to match speed but also to manage the budget.
We had a little look at a triallist goalkeeper Martin Horsell in the behind closed doors game.
He is a good keeper from Salisbury and was at Bristol Rovers before.
Salisbury have got three keepers and only one can be on the bench, so he's one we'll keep an eye on because we need some competition for Chris Snoddy to keep him on his toes.
I notice he has been taking a bit of stick recently but goalkeepers don't mature until they are maybe 30-years-old.
He has got a lot of playing time left.
It would be great if he matured quicker but he is playing the games and we are lucky to have someone of Chris' ability.
He is more than good enough to play week in week out and I have no doubts about playing him.
We've kept three clean sheets in four, so defensively we are very solid at the moment but I just felt we needed an extra body.
It was a good clean sheet and a very good point earned in the 0-0 draw at Clevedon on Saturday.
Although we didn't take the three points, to get a point away from home against another form side is a point gained.
The pitch was getting worse and worse. We tried to play in the first half but then the pitch was so bad it was a case of grinding it out.
The players knew there was going to have to be a dramatic change in the performance from the Gloucester game.
We have got a tough month ahead, we knew it was going to be a difficult start to the year with two local Derbies.
We have got Bashley on Saturday, who I still fancy to finish in the top five or six and then Bromsgrove who are going well under new management. After that Brackley come to us and they still have aspirations of winning the league.
