The end to our game against Yate was probably more nervous than it should have been and I had a pop at the players about it after the match.
No disrespect to Yate but I think we were the better side. We passed it well, created numerous chances and I think a third goal would have killed it off.
However we went into our little comfort zone again where we are happy to pass it for the sake of passing it and we stopped penetrating like we were doing. At 2-0 it’s always difficult as with one goal they are back in it and, like you’ve seen at the end, they had that half chance and could have scored.
Having said that I thought everybody was fantastic on the night. Steve Casey and Sean Seavill were excellent but you can’t just pick out individual performances. I think it was a team effort from the lads who were hurting a little bit from the loss to Corby on Saturday.
They know we didn’t start the game in the right way and and in crucial areas we let ourselves down. But we bounced back against Yate and I got a little response from the lads. I’m hoping we can carry it on against Mangotsfield on Saturday.
The bad news is Ashley Williams took a knock against Corby and doctors fear he may have cracked a rib. We’ll get the x-ray results soon but if he has then we’re looking at three or four weeks out which effectively means the rest of the season.
Also, Iain Harvey has tried everything to get his foot right but nothing seems to be working. He may need to have an MRI scan to get to the route of the problem but he may also be out for the rest of the campaign unfortunately.
Dave Pratt was on the bench against Yate but that was not because of his recent displays. We have brought in Marcus Palmer because Dave has picked up a few knocks lately and needed a rest. We need him right for the run-in because he will have a crucial part to play.
We’ve recovered well the recent losses so it would be a crying shame if we don’t turn up on Saturday now.
It’s going to take the same effort we put in against Yate because no matter how good you are as a side if your attitude isn’t right you’ll lose against the bottom sides and that has been our downfall this season.
