Losing to Hitchin Town in the manner we did on Saturday will take me a little bit of time to get over as that is the most hurt I’ve ever been after a game during my time in charge of this club.
We had put ourselves in such a good position with the win against Swindon Supermarine on the Tuesday before and everyone knew the importance of carrying that on at Hitchin.
There were a few players whose performance left a lot to be desired and it’s forced us, the management, to start asking a few questions.
The first of those would be how much does everyone want to achieve something this year?
We are not grasping the opportunites to kick on and establish ourselves in the top five or six. It happened against Hemel Hempstead, against Oxford City and now it has happened again.
It’s given us some food for thought and it may mean there has to be changes. We are getting a lot of indifferent performances and how we can draw with Farnboruogh one weekend and lose to Hitchin the next really does beggar belief.
At the same time we have to be realistic in our goals, and when Corby have signed former Watford striker Jason Lee recently it shows the advantage some clubs have financially.
It looks like we will have to send Jo Arnold back to Team Bath after he re-injured his hamstring coming off the bench on Saturday.
We knew he wasn’t fully match fit but were led to believe he was over his old problems when he wasn’t.
We are trying to get one or two players in to replace him and Ben Swallow, who went back to Bristol Rovers before the Corby match at the weekend.
It often comes down to money but we’ve spoken to league and Conference clubs and we’re hoping someone may do us a favour.
Unfortunately Ross Adams is looking doubtful for the Corby game with a bruise on his kneecap which is restricting his movement.
I’d like to finish by saying a special thanks to Rob Bullock, who has been nominated for non-league groundsman of the year.
In my two-and-a-half years here the pitch has been nothing short of sensational and, considering we also train on it for 80 per cent of the year, he does a fantastic job.
