CHIPPENHAM Town had to come from behind to claim a 4-1 win over Melksham Town on Saturday afternoon.

After dominating the opening half hour but failing to find the net, Chippenham were stung into action after their hosts took the lead with a penalty.

Andy Sandell notched a hat trick, whilst Jake Andrews, making the first appearance of his new loan spell, netted his first Chippenham goal from open play.

As early as the fourth minute the lively Andrews saw his shot blocked by keeper Rob Brown with Sandell blazing the loose ball over.

Dave Pratt then cut the ball back to Alex Ferguson whose shot was deflected behind, whilst Andrews bent a free kick around the wall but beyond the post. Melksham’s first attack on 19 minutes saw keeper Jared Thompson, on loan from Chelsea, pluck Ben Thompson’s free kick out of the air.

Four minutes later a woeful Melksham back pass left Sandell with only Brown to beat but the keeper blocked the effort, as Andrews headed over from a Scott Donnelly corner.

Melksham took the lead on the half hour when Will Richards fouled Joe Stradling and Gary Higdon scored from the ensuing penalty.

Chippenham equalised just before the break, when a strong run along the left by line by Pratt saw him cut the ball back for Sandell to tap home.

Chippenham took the lead on 55 minutes when Dean Evans found Pratt, whose touch ended with Sandell rifling home the loose ball. A minute later Ferguson found Sandell who again found the net from close in.

Chippenham’s fourth came on 62 minutes when substitute Josh Morgan-Williams found James Guthrie and his left wing cross was volleyed home by Andrews.

Ferguson then had two efforts inside a minute with the first hitting a post, whilst Brown palmed down a shot from Andrews.

In stoppage time former Chippenham player Luke Ballinger was presented with the ball by former Melksham keeper Darren Chitty but his shot was stopped by Chitty's foot.
