NORTH WILTS ladies and men’s teams are both involved in important competitive matches this weekend.

The ladies face Clevedon on Saturday in the third round of the Yetton Trophy, while 24 hours later the men play St Andrews in the central section of the Wessex League.

In the Yetton Trophy, North Wilts have booked their place in the third round by beating Clarrie Dunbar 81-78 before claiming an 81-76 success over Melksham-based Christie Miller 81-76.

However, against Clevedon they will come up against a side who include several past and present England internationals.

TEAM Home - Rink 1: June Coyle, Eirona Carpenter, Wendy Ivory & Fizz Mace. Rink 2: Norma Rowden, Barbara Shepheard, Viv Baskerville & Jean Collier.

Away - Rink 1: Ann Roberts-Phare, Carol Massey, Irene Button & Alex Jacobs. Rink 2: Margaret Cooke, Karen Funnell, Jane Taylor & Sue Cooke. Reserves: Sue Pitman, Jan Tombs and Molly Manning.

NORTH Wilts’ Sue Cooke will face Clevedon’s England international Stef Branfield in the Area 16 ladies semi-final of the champion of champions competition on Saturday, November 25.

THE men at North Wilts made an encouraging start last month to the 2017/18 Wessex League campaign in the central region of the competition with an 86-76 victory over Purnell (Paulton).

This win earned them 11 points out of a possible 16.

This Sunday morning North Wilts men will be looking to build on this good opening performance when they face newcomers St Andrews in their second game.
