HOLT’S Ben Gadd collected a double at the men’s county finals at Devizes on Sunday.

Gadd, who had never appeared in the men’s singles final before defeated Westlecot’s Mike Titcombe 21-15 before skipping his Holt team to a big win in the fours final that they had all won before in 2014.

Later in the day a Holt foursome of Wayne Simmonds, Justin Davis, Wayne Snook and Gadd recorded a comprehensive 27-4 victory over Chippenham Town skipped by Neil Connor in the fours final.

Trowbridge Town’s veteran Dave Betteridge lifted the two wood singles trophy with a 14-9 victory over Royal Wootton Bassett’s Kyle Anderson.

Meanwhile, Spencer Moulton’s Gary Fippen and Nick Grenfell edged out Chippenham Town’s Alex Wickham and Steve Heseltine 17-15.

A combination of Tom Newman (Avon) and Chris Poole (Holt) lost out in the U25 pairs final to Westlcot’s Gary Jackson and Royal Wootton Bassett’s Kyle Anderson 27-17.

In the other finals staged at Devizes on Sunday, Anderson defeated Highworth’s David Murray 21-19 for the U25 singles crown, while the Bassett foursome of Barry Sictorness, Terry Walton, Chris Cheesley and Mel Biggs claimed the O55 Fours title with a 22-15 over a quartet from Chippenham Town.

Over 55 Fours: Barry Sictorness, Terry Walton, Chris Cheesley & Mel Biggs (RWB) beat John Lucas, Mike Travers, Steve Heseltine &Jeremy Haselton (Chip T) 22-15.

ALEX Jacobs also picked up two county titles at the weekend as she was victorious in the fours and two wood singles finals at Alderbury on Saturday.

However, the Box player was unable to make it a hat-trick after losing out in the pairs.

In the fours, Jacobs skipped her rink of Carol Grenfell, Kathryn Yeoman, Sue Cooke and herself to a 19-16 success over Wroughton.

However, in the pairs after lunch, Jacobs and club mate Sue Cooke were beaten 18-12 by Westlecot’s Jayne Croston and Lynda Whittingham.

Jacobs moved onto the two wood singles final and retained her title with a comfortable 16-8 win over club colleague and winning fours team member Kathryn Yeoman.

Box failed to add to Jacobs two victories as Jean Collier, 2015 champion and 2016 runner-up in the ladies singles was beaten in this year’s singles final by Deanne Davis (Wanborough) 21-14.

In the other two finals on the day at Alderbury, Lucy Smith made it six U25 singles titles in seven years when beating Avon’s Georgina Newman 21-14.

There was also a win for Purton’s Chris Mitchell, Julie Jones and Alison Fail 19-15 over Salisbury in the ladies triples final.
