THE 2016/17 indoor bowling season rapidly draws to a close over the next few weeks, with  the ladies section at the North Wilts indoor club still deeply involved in three events.

The Chippenham-based club are chasing three ladies national championship titles, hoping to add to the tally of four ttles previously won - the ladies Yetton team Trophy 2008, ladies fours 2008, ladies pairs 2010 and ladies Over 50 two wood triples 2016.

North Wilts ladies have qualified this season for the last 16 and final stages in the O60s singles as well as the O50s two wood triples besides reaching the last four and shootout for the Yetton Trophy, top ladies team competition.

The club's top women’s player, Alex Jacobs, carries the club’s hopes of success in the over 60s singles.

She beat Teresa King (Clarrie Dunbar) 21-18 to win the Area 16 title and book her place at Nottingham on Friday, April 14 at 4pm in the first round (last 16) against Pamela Daters (Bridport).

Jacobs will be bidding to add the senior ladies indoor title to two senior ladies outdoor titles won at Royal Leamington Spa previously.

She also features in the O50s ladies two wood triples bid to defend the title won in dramatic fashion at Nottingham last year.

This time around Jacobs & co begin the defence of their title with a last 16 match against Sally Williams, Julie Leake and Penny Cresswell (Dolphin, Poole, Dorset).

North Wilts other interest is in the ladies team inter-club championship event for the Yetton Trophy which they lifted in 2008 when they beat Egham in the final.

The Westcroft club have had a superb run in the Yetton this season, drawing a bye in round one and then defeating old adversaries Thornbury 80-43 in round two and then overcoming MidGlos 68-59 in a difficult round three tie.

In round four they thumped Clarrie Dunbar 94-41 and in the next despite transport problems beat Egham 74-51 in round five.

North Wilts booked their place in the last four at City and County of Bristol IBC on Sunday, April 23 and a semi-final tie with Spalding at 10am with a fine 85-49 quarter-final win over Moonfleet (Weymouth).

Arun (Bognor Regis, Sussex) and St Neots (Cambs) meet in the other semi-final at Bristol with the two winners meeting in the afternoon (3pm) final.
