GEORGE Twine booked his place in the Central Regional Finals of the English Bowls Youth Development Scheme in April, with an impressive performance in the County Finals held at North Wilts Indoor Bowls Club in Chippenham.

The 14-year old, who is from Royal Wootton Bassett and represents Swindon Manor Indoor Bowls Club, triumphed in the U16 section of the Wiltshire championships.

A total of 18 aspiring young bowlers from around the county took part in the event, all playing three matches of seven ends in a round-robin format in the morning.

After lunch, the players took part in the skills section, which included a series of exercises.

Twine won all three matches, gaining 10 points for each win and then topped the skills section with 52 points, crowning him EBYDS Wiltshire U16 Champion.

Twine only started playing outdoor bowls last summer for Royal Wootton Bassett, after taking part in a local charity match held every year in memory of his late grandad Stan Twine.

He joined the Swindon Manor Indoor bowls club in October and has also represented them this season in Wessex League matches.

Twine will now go on to represent Wiltshire at the regional finals, which take place over the Easter weekend at Gloucester.
