THREE PLAYERS, Alex Jacobs, Alan Stell and Roger Button, were the most successful in this season’s annual North Wilts indoor bowls club championships, the trio all recording a hat-trick of victories.

Jacobs’ treble came in three ladies championship events - ladies singles, triples and fours - but she missed out on a clean sweep of titles as, together with Sue Cooke with whom she won the national pairs title in 2010, they were beaten in the club’s ladies pairs final by June Coyle and Fizz Mace.

In the men’s club championship section Stell and Button featured in all three of their victories together.

They won the pairs, combined with Neil Connor to take the triples title and Richard Gainey joined the trio for success in the men’s fours.

However, the fourth men’s event, the singles title, was won by Andy Bradfield for the first time, beating Richard McComb in the final.

Four players secured doubles, Mace in the ladies pairs and mixed fours, Molly Manning and Cooke together in ladies triples and fours, while a men's double was recorded by Neil Connor skipping in the triples and fours finals.

Titles were successfully defended last weekend in the North Wilts club championships in four events - ladies singles, ladies fours, mixed pairs and mixed fours.

Jacobs retained the ladies singles title beating Jean Collier in the final while Jacobs skipped Manning, Judy Selbie and Cooke to the ladies fours crown.

In the mixed pairs Collier leading with Gordon Scott skipping retained their title as did Bob George, Jane Taylor, Maurice Byron and Fizz Mace in the mixed fours.

The ladies and men’s singles winners Alex Jacobs and Andy Bradfield will go forward as North Wilts representatives in the respective ladies’ and men’s champion of champions competition in the newly formed Area 16 which now includes Thornbury, Cotswold (Stroud) and Gloucester for the 2016/17 campaign.
