TEAMS from Chippenham's North Wilts club and Swindon's Westlecot made progress to the quarter finals of their repsective competitions at the National Indoor Bowls Championship Finals in Nottingham today.

With the last-eight clashes due later this evening, Jean Collier, Sue Cooke and Alex Jacobs, from North Wilts defeated Josie Lloyd, Wendy Anderson and Janet Willis, from Westlecot, in what was essentially a local derby in the women's two-wood triples, North Wilts winning 19-8.

North Wilts then went on the rampage in the semi final to beat Boston, 23-9 and book a semi final against York on Tuesday morning.

Meanwhile Westlecot, skipped by Mel Biggs, were always in control against Blackpool Newton Hall in their men's Over 50s triples last 16 contest, winning with something in hand, 16-9.

However Biggs' rink, also including Terry Walton and Dave Snell, before bowing out in an exciting semi final.

They were taking on Folkestone, the Kent side scoring a sensational six on the penultimate end to take the lead at 17-15.

A double for Westlecot tied things up at 17-17, and the extra end produced more drama when Folkestone skip Roger Herridge sent the jack to three of his team's back bowls, and set up a 20-17 victory.
