CHRISTIE Miller's trio of Chris Easton, Nigel Price and skip Andy Moore are back on the national title trail again in the Over 50s triples competition, writes DAVE EATON.

Beaten in this event three years ago when losing in the final 18-16 to Folkstone, the Melksham team booked their appearance in the latter stages at Nottingham at the end of March with a 22-7 victory over Will Anderson’ triple from Ilminster.

Moore’s team lost two of the first three ends in the inter-area final played at Clarrie Dunbar last Saturday to trail Paul Denslow, Will Anderson and Mark Denslow, the Area 29 winners, 5-1.

However, from this point the Christie Miller boys never looked back winning the next eight ends in a row with four counts of three, three twos and a single to roar into a 20-5 lead at 11 ends.

Ilminster took the next but when the Millermen scored a two on the 13th end to lead 22-7 the Somerset side raised the white flag and conceded the match although five ends still remained.

Moore and his Christie Miller colleagues are the first team to qualify for the last 16 at Nottingham from March 28-29 where they will be hoping to go one better than in 2013 and lift the Over 50s triples title.

To reach the last 16 in this national competition, Easton, Price and Moore have beaten North Wilts, Nailsea and Clarrie Dunbar triples teams and then sealed the Area 30 section title with a comfortable 18-9 victory over Bristol led by Mike Humphries and of course followed it up with the comprehensive success over Area 29 winners Ilminster.

The trio will be back in team action this weekend for the Melksham club when they face arch rivals Clarrie Dunbar in the next block of fixtures in the central region of the Wessex League on Sunday.
