CHRISTIE Miller and Clarrie Dunbar have endured mixed fortunes during the first half of the 2015/16 indoor season, writes DAVE EATON.

Clarrie Dunbar go into the new year still running in the two main mixed championship events, Egham Trophy and Top Club, having already qualified for round three (last 32) in the Top Club competition.

Then on the last Sunday before Christmas they secured the team double in national mixed competition with a healthy 90-61 Egham Trophy round four win over St Andrews (Weston-super-Mare).

In the men’s over 50s triple event, Christie Millar’s Chris Easton, Nigel Price and Andy Moore have reached the Area 30 final after a last end 16-15 semi-final success over John Freeman’s trio.

Clarrie Dunbar duo Duncan McGovern and John Freeman plus Maurice Byrom (North Wilts) have qualified for the Area 30 semi-finals in the men’s over 60s singles.

In the over 60 fours the North Wilts men’s team, skipped by Dave Williams, booked their place in the Area 30 final against Don Dart’s (Purnell) foursome, after an 18-16 semis win over Mike Smith (Bristol).

Dale Taylor from Clarrie Dunbar won the Area 30 U25 singles final with a 2-0 sets win over Jordan Sparey (Bristol) to book a place in the inter-area final.

In the ladies section, Clarrie Dunbar’s Marcia Hartley features prominently in three of the four main ladies national championship events which have all reached the semi-finals stage.

Together with Ann Jones they have to play Alex Jacobs and Sue Cooke (North Wilts) in the Area 30 pairs semi-finals by January 17, after a 26-21 quarter-final win over Irene Button and her partner.

And Hartley (skip), with Ruth Haines and Jones, have to meet Jacobs, Cooke and Irene Button in the triples semi-finals by January 10.

Also, with Debbie Shadwell, Jeanette Wheeler and Kim Smith, Hartley is through to an Area 30 fours semi-final.

Hartley is also a member of the Craig Doughty mixed fours team that have qualified for the Area 30 final.

To complete a nap hand in the mixed competitions Clarrie Dunbar duo Debbie Shadwell and Terry Perkins beat Kim Smith and partner 20-15 to book a place in the Area 30 pairs final.

Meanwhile, teenager Jamie Shadwell beat Imogen Cracknell (St Andrews) 2-0 in the area quarter-finals of the U18 singles championship.

l Clarrie Dunbar’s Brian Hawkins reached the quarter-finals of the Bournemouth Open Singles Tournament, while Keith and Thelma Bailey both lost in round two.
