THERE was a mixed set of results for Christie Miller and Clarrie Dunbar in national team competitions last week, writes DAVE EATON.

Miller lost out in three different events, while Dunbar clocked up three wins in separate events and missed out in a fourth.

Christie Miller men led almost all the way in the men’s Over 60s double rinks against North Wilts, but on the 21st and last end they dropped two singles to only draw 32-32 and be taken to an extra-end decider.

Unfortunately, the rink of John Bailey, Colin Little, Chris Easton and Nigel Price, who had won their game 18-14 against North Wilts skip Richard Gainey, dropped a two in the decider, so Miller went down overall 34-32.

The other Christie Miller rink, skipped by John Crowder, had lost in the main match 18-14.

Miller ladies were beaten by Bristol 90-72 in round one of the consolation Yetton Plate team competition and Miller's mixed team lost 84-66 to North Wilts in an Egham Trophy round one tie.

Dunbar chalked up a treble over Clevedon in the Yetton Trophy. Egham Trophy and men’s O60s double rinks but missed-out on a four-timer losing in the women’s Mason Trophy to North Wilts.

The ladies enjoyed a good win over the Somerset side containing a couple of past and present England international players in the Yetton 80-71 to book a third round place against local rivals North Wilts next Saturday, November 21.

Clarrie’s highest winning rink skipped by Teresa King won by 23 shots although rink honours were shared two-all.

Dunbar overcame a stubborn Clevedon side in an Egham Trophy, mixed inter-club championship, second round tie 76-69.

They took the spoils on three of the four rinks and only losing one with Andy Colebrooke’s four recording the biggest win of 26-11.

The hat-trick was secured as the senior men’s Over 60s double rinks side were conceded their second round tie by the Somerset side and now face Bristol in round three, the match to be played by November 27.

But the senior ladies side crashed out of the Over 60s double rinks for the Mason Trophy losing to North Wilts 57-18.

The home rink of Shirley Samuals, Jo Dunford, Teresa King and Ann Jones lost 29-13 to the four skipped by North Wilts’ Sue Cooke.

In the other game at North Wilts, the rink of Ruth Haines, Maggie Morgan, Sue Bird and Ailsa Midwinter fared even worse also being soundly beaten by Fizz Mace’s foursome 28-5.

NATIONAL indoor events have reached the Area 30 finals stage in both the men’s and women’s champion of champions competition.

But Christie Miller’s Bev Lilley fell in the area semi-final losing 21-12 to Alex Jacobs (North Wilts), while Clarrie Dunbar’s John Freeman also went out in the men’s competition in the area semi-finals losing 21-15 to Bristol’s Paul Bryant.
