KATY SMITH is set to make her England international debut next month.

The Wootton Bassett club member has been named by Bowls England in a 12-strong squad to participate in its first Under 18 Test Series against Wales on her own green at the start of September.

Players will take part in a number of disciplines and various formats over the course of the two days, which will be announced shortly.

This Test series against Wales will build on the success of the Sutton Winson Trophy, which gave an opportunity for 128 juniors to compete during the National Championships in Royal Leamington Spa last week.

Katy’s England U18 call-up completes a very happy double for the Smith household as her father Neil recently received news of his first call-up for England when named in the indoor side to face Wales at the end of September.

To complete the Bassett connection for this U18 international, former Bassett chairman Hedley Bowen, who is the England junior team manager, will lead the men’s team along with his ladies counterpart Gail Gilkes during the event.
