NORTH WILTS have reached the semi-finals of the ladies Over 50s Two Wood Triples in the national championships being staged at Nottingham IBC this week.

The trio of Jean Collier lead, number two Sue Cooke and skip Alex Jacobs enjoyed a comfortable 21-11 victory in their quarter-final tie last evening (Monday) over the Victory (Portsmouth) threesome of Jackie Wells, Margaret Moffatt and Kath Patrick.

Jacobs’ triple made a rapid start to the quarter-final going 8-0 up after three ends, however, Victory hit back with a five on the fourth, but North Wilts still led 10-5 after five ends and had increased that advantage to 14-6 after nine ends.

A single and a big count of four followed to increase their lead to a healthy 19-6 after 11 ends.

Victory rallied with a succession of singles to cut the gap to 19-11 after 15 ends but two singles saw North Wilts home and claim a 21-11 success on the 17th end.

In today’s (Tuesday) semi-finals starting at 9.30am Jacobs’ trio will meet Acle (Norfolk) who beat Falcon (Chelmsford, Essex) 17-12 in their quarter-final yesterday.

If successful this morning North Wilts would face Avon Valley (Lightwater, Warks) or Barwell (Leics) in the final this evening which is scheduled to commence at 5.30pm.

Clarrie Dunbar trio of Brian Hawkins, John Freeman and Keith Bailey missed-out at Nottingham yesterday in the Over 50s men’s triples.

They lost their quarter-final tie 19-7 against Welford-on-Avon (Warks).
