Powell happy with his trials
Badminton Horse Trials: The 1991 Badminton winner Rodney Powell finished 14th on ten-year-old Zin Zan II, one of the younger horses in the competition where he was making his debut.
"I was very pleased with Zin Zan's performance, particularly as so many had problems," said the Bishopstone rider. "He's green at this level but jumped a really good cross country round and didn't say no to anything - I was pleased with the way he used his brain.
I had a tricky moment at the Hexagon Hedge, when Zin Zan came down on his nose, but I hadn't gone to Badminton to fall off."
He said the horse had just one unlucky rail down in the show jumping phase. "He's now happy back at home and had a big roll in the field as soon as he went out - he came up looking a different colour," said Powell.
"Next we will go to Barbury Castle in early July, then the British Open at Gatcombe and Thirlestane Castle in Scotland probably, in August.
I want to save the horse for the future so I won't over run him and I hope to keep him going well for many years."
It's now "back to reality" for the 45-year-old, who will run four up and coming horses at Aston-le-Walls one day event in Northamptonshire this weekend.
