SWINDON TOWN: "Nightmare start" for Roberts
6:00am Thursday 18th October 2012 in Sport Exclusive By Sam Morshead
Swindon Town's Gary Roberts
GARY Roberts has spoken of his “nightmare start” to life in a Swindon Town shirt.
The winger, a summer signing from Huddersfield, has battled a variety of injuries since arriving at the County Ground - with ailments ranging from sciatic nerve problems to groin trouble.
Having become used to playing regularly throughout his career, being forced to sit tight on the sidelines has not been an easy situation for the wide man to digest.
When he has been involved, Roberts has impressed with dazzling footwork and an uncanny knack of getting the ball in the right places inside the area.
But, by his own admission, he has not got the chance to show the Town fans the real extent of his talents because his injury woe.
He told the Advertiser: “It’s been a bit of a nightmare start for me. I’ve been a little bit down lately, being out injured and getting niggles because I’ve never really had a niggle, I’ve never pulled a muscle in my life.
“It’s been a frustrating time. I’ve come in and I’ve done alright when I’ve come in but to get a goal and to finish the game as I did was great.
“It’s just nice to be fit for the next game now and concentrating on keeping fit and strengthening my legs with Claudio and keeping myself fit and available to start.
“I’ve played 40-odd games every season and I’ve missed 11 games now – it’s hard for a footballer to sit there and watch a team play, especially when you’re a new signing. You want to get on the pitch and show the fans and the manager what you can do.
“You’re just eager to go and you’re champing at the bit to be playing and not to just go home, especially when the lads have lost, and be disappointed. You want to be out there to help them but it has been disappointing and it has been a really bad time for me the first couple of months.”

He is a class act and professional to the core - we definitely need him in and fit again as his contribution is always telling.....his understanding with Jay Mac on the left could be a title winning combination as they are starting to get the crosses in - we just need the attackers to get in on the end of them now.

A sicknote who averages over 40 games a year for 10 odd years??????
The trouble, and perhaps slightly worrying thing is that he has had a succession of niggling injuries which to date don't show any signs of abating.
