RACING: California test for Hannon's Sky Lantern
3:08pm Monday 15th October 2012 in Sport
WILTSHIRE trainer Richard Hannon has confirmed Group one-winning filly Sky Lantern will go to America to challenge for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf next month.
The two-year-old grey won the Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh in good style and Hannon has no concerns about a trip to California for the youngster.
"Sky Lantern ran all the way to the line in the Moyglare, and we have no worries about the trip in America, while the turf track at Santa Anita invariably rides fast which will suit our filly ideally," the East Everleigh handler told richardhannonracing.co.uk.
"Her form in Europe is rock-solid, and she probably represents our best chance yet of winning a Breeders' Cup race.
"We have thrown a few darts in the past without success, but there is no Lasix for two-year-olds this year which makes it a level playing field for all of us, so we will be heading across the Atlantic with our tails up.
"Sky Lantern is three from five so has plenty of experience, but judged on her work at home she has improved through the summer.
"Only the Guineas favourite (Certify) beat us in the Sweet Solera at Newmarket, and then we were a bit unlucky not to win the Prestige at Goodwood, but she has definitely gone forward since and we are really looking forward to the trip."
