Swindon Town statement regarding new chairman
"THE Directors of STFC are delighted to announce the appointment of Sir William Patey as non-executive Chairman*.
"Sir William is a lifelong football fan and, having served as British Ambassador to, amongst others, Afghanistan, Iraq and Saudi Arabia brings a wealth of experience to the Swindon board.
"Sir William commented: 'I am delighted to become Chairman of Swindon Town at such an exciting time. I look forward to working with Paolo, the Board and the whole Club so that success on the pitch can continue and take the Club back to the npower Championship.
“'In addition, my task will be to secure new investment to support the programme of ground redevelopment and to co-ordinate the execution of the Club’s longer term strategic plans.
"'I look forward to working with those who share the same ambitions for the Club both on and off the field and relish the opportunity to take on this challenge.
"'The Club has achieved much under the Chairmanship of Jeremy Wray and on behalf of the Board and investor base would like to thank him for his efforts over the course of the last 18 months.”
"Jeremy Wray, after careful consideration, has taken the decision to resign from the STFC Board with immediate effect.
"Regretting this decision, the Board would like to place on record its thanks for Jeremy’s invaluable contribution to the club since his initial involvement in January 2008 and justly proud of his achievements since assuming the role of Chairman in May 2011.
*Appointment subject to Football League approval"

Thank you Jeremy, everything you've done for the club is greatly appreciated
Taking away the fans appreciation of Wray, and the disappointment to see him leave the club - If the man putting the money into Cardiff can change the colour of their home shirt, the man putting the money in can change the chairman if he feels appropriate.
I would like to hear from Black his reasoning, but I'm not sure thats going to happen.
Looking forward tho, I don't think there are many with a better CV than the new guy. He's got massive boots to fill whichever way you look at it.
I just want a sucessful club on and off the pitch.
My only fear is the future of PDC.

Shame to see Wray go. When it comes to chairman with out a shadow of a doubt, hes the best chairman weve had in the 20 off years ive been alive.

.
If his appointment is indeed a move to try and help secure additional investment and the stadium redevelopment sooner rather than later, I boldly predict there'll be no complaints from the fanbase as/when that happens.
.
Hard for many to see past an emotional response to the news, but my opinion is that this is the right move for the immediate short term issues that the club want to resolve, namely the two mentioned above.
.
Maybe, just maybe, JW was not the man to see that through. Not a criticism of him as an individual, but maybe the reality of things as they stand.

If supporters want to do more than watch helplessly from the sidelines they need to join Trust STFC and play an active part, not just leave it to someone else.

Mr A Black is the majority shareholder and without this guy we probably would not have a club, and one that's on a real high at present. We need to all support his decision and welcome the new chairman as I'm sure with his wealth of knowledge and contacts we could really see further investment and the country ground redevelopment.
I wonder if the The co founder of betfair (Edward Wray) which is Jeremy's brother knew anything about this?
